It is not often that you see a nun in religious attire at a tennis game. No wonder the presence of Sr. Margaret Kozub, our Provincial Leader, attracted the attention of media both in Australia and Poland. One of the Polish online platforms stated: Sister Margaret was perfectly prepared to support Polish Team. The photos show that she brought a Polish flag and a scarf with her. Her presence in the stands is as much of a sensation as the pink inflatable flamingo that appears at every Polish match—two icons of the United Cup 2025.
In a brief interview conducted during the latest United Cup in Sydney in January, when asked why she is so passionate about supporting the Polish team, she answered: “Once you are in it, you have to support the people who represent your country of origin. You just have to be there for them.”
She also admitted that she sometimes follows the achievements of Polish team sports, especially tennis and volleyball, which is one of the expressions of her bond with Poland when she lives in Australia.
Even though both of her favourite Polish players, Iga Świątek and Hubert Hurkacz, lost their final games, Sr. Margaret stated that they played exceptionally well and that we all should be extremely proud of their performance. She continues to support the Polish team, wishing them successful results in their matches at the Australian Open.
While we admire Sr. Margaret’s passion, we might ask ourselves: What are we passionate about? Who are we “cheering for” in our lives—not only in sports but on a daily basis? And finally, may our performance be the best it can be so that we can be proud of our achievements.
