Following footsteps of Mother Foundress on American soil (Part 1)
From 8 to 23 August 2026, twenty-two Sisters representing the entire Congregation are taking part in a special pilgrimage across the United States, following in the footsteps of our Foundress, Blessed Mary of Jesus the Good Shepherd, Frances Siedliska.
The pilgrimage takes the Sisters to Chicago, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and New York, places to which Blessed Frances sent her first daughters. For 141 years, successive generations of Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth have continued to sow the charism of Nazareth on American soil.
This journey is more than a visit to historical places. It is an opportunity to rediscover the story, legacy and missionary vision of our Foundress, and to renew the Sisters’ commitment to extending the Kingdom of God’s love.
As the pilgrims travel from one significant place to another, the entire Congregation is invited to accompany them through prayer and in spirit.

Below we share the summary of experiences on the journey through the eyes of Sr Rita and Sr Maureen, who participate in the pilgrimage representing our Holy Spirit Province in Australia.
Renewing the Mission and Legacy of the Foundress
For Sr Rita, the pilgrimage is a journey of rediscovering the vision, faith and missionary spirit of Blessed Mary of Jesus the Good Shepherd. Walking in the Foundress's footsteps deepens the Sisters' commitment to continuing her mission and extending God's love in today's world.

Gratitude for the Living Charism of Nazareth
A strong theme in Sr Rita's reflections is gratitude for the many people who have sustained the Nazareth mission over generations. She highlights the dedication of Sisters, lay associates, staff and supporters who continue to embody and share the charism entrusted by the Foundress.
Community, Hospitality and Fellowship
The pilgrimage is not only a spiritual journey but also a celebration of community life. The Thanksgiving celebration, shared meals and simple moments together foster joy, friendship and a sense of belonging. Sr Maureen's memory of making smores for the first time reflects the warmth and laughter experienced among the pilgrims.
Sisterhood Across Cultures and Countries
Sr Maureen's reunion with Sr Danuta demonstrates the international nature of the Congregation and the enduring bonds formed through shared experiences. The pilgrimage brings together Sisters from different provinces, strengthening relationships and reinforcing their global identity as one Nazareth family.
Remembering the Sacrifices of Earlier Sisters
Visits to the cemeteries and prayer services honour the Sisters who came before them. Sr Maureen was especially moved by learning how young many of the early Sisters were when they died. This reflection highlights the courage, sacrifice and dedication that helped establish the Congregation's mission in America.
Prayer and Spiritual Reflection
Prayer is at the heart of the pilgrimage. Through Mass, visits to holy places, cemetery prayer services and moments of reflection, the Sisters are invited to deepen their relationship with God and draw inspiration from the faith of those who have gone before them.
Joy in the Journey
Alongside moments of prayer and remembrance, both reflections reveal the importance of joy. Laughter, fellowship, hospitality and shared experiences remind the Sisters that pilgrimage is not only about looking back at history but also about celebrating the life and spirit of the Congregation today.
